 The best stuff is compacted graphite iron (CGI), which falls between gray and nodular iron in strength and stiffness while providing greater resistance to fatigue cracks.

The high-strength, military-grade, aluminum also gave birth to the development of ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­a new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine, which Ford President of the Americas Joe Hinrichs believes could become a volume leader.

”It all depends on what the customers want,” he told reporters following an announcement in Ohio, where the engine will be produced, in March. ”We’ve seen increasing demand for the V6 applications in the F-150.”

Tidtabell finns i dessa artiklar. De återupptar tillverkningen efter ett teknikskifte den 21 sept i år. Då skall redan blocken vara gjutna och motorerna ihopsatta. Jag tror att blocken kommer att rulla från Saltillofabriken redan under eftersommaren i år. Då kommer feta intäkter till Sintercast och dessa stiger efterhand som produktionen varvas upp. Jag räknar med tre kronors utdelning för detta året. 

 

Den nuvarande V6- motorn i F-150 är en EcoBoost på 3,5 liter och den finns förutom i F-150 i :

Lincoln MKT
Ford Taurus SHO

och det finns ingen som helst anledning att tro den nya hamnar i färre modeller. Mustang av nya modellen är också en het kandidat.
Once up to full capacity, the line will run two shifts with 154 workers per shift. 
Ford declined to provide power or economy specifications for the new engine. Officials also declined to say whether the engine may be used in other company vehicles.

C/D: The compacted graphite iron block engineered for use in the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6(code name “Nano”) is an interesting F-150 pickup development.  Do you see that as a potential Mustang engine in the future?

 

 

RN: We have a wealth of EcoBoost engines to choose from ranging from 1.0–3.5 liters. All of our engines are engineered for both car and truck use. There’s growing enthusiasm for the Mustang’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost because of its excellent balance of performance and efficiency. CGI is a very attractive material for engine blocks because of its strength, weight, and cost attributes. But we’re also watching for additional applications of that material in our cars and trucks
