FCAs nya motor med kodnamnet GME-T6

525 Hp?

The company also expects the production approval of a new SinterCast-CGI petrol engine, potentially marking the company’s second passenger vehicle petrol engine application.

Allpar says the brief is to keep the Tornado GME-T6 — the alphanumeric for ”turbocharged six” — no more than three inches longer ( 76 mm ) than the Tigershark 2.4-liter four-cylinder. That means ”major design changes” that could include a space-saving head, more closely spaced cylinders, and no cylinder liners ( liners behövs inte med CGI i blocken)

Den kommer i stora antal eftersom den skall efterträda Pentastar V6 som finns i ”such as the Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler and Gladiator, the Chrysler 300C and Voyager, Dodge Charger, Challenger, Durango Grand Caravan and Pacifica, the Ram 1500 and the Fiat Ducato based Ram ProMaster van. ”

In its most powerful version, it could have more than 500 hp.

It’s a poorly kept secret that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is working on an all-new inline-six turbo engine but so far we’ve only heard unconfirmed rumors about that unit. Now, a new patent filing comes to prove that the project codenamed GME-T6 (Global Medium Engine Turbo-6) is indeed in the works, albeit in the very early stages of development.

First unearthed by Moparinsiders, the patent drawing shows a six-cylinder inline engine with a newly designed EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system for use with turbocharged gasoline engines. Patent number 10,247,142 filed with the U.S. Patent Office by FCA US LLC depicts an engine that is very similar to FCA’s GME-T4 inline-four turbo motor but obviously has two more cylinders.

ur patentansökan

Get out your Skeptics Hat for this one and keep it close by. Allpar cites ”reliable sources” to write that Fiat Chrysler appears to be working on a new inline-six engine to be slotted into company products around the globe. The purported engine would be based on the 2.0-liter Global Medium Engine inline-four. Allpar first reported on the potential development in February 2017 and has filed a few updates since then, one citing ”internal communications referring to a GME T6” — the ”T” meaning turbocharged. It’s said that some engineers have changed their online résumés to reflect their focus on the new motor.

Chrysler gave up its last inline-six 11 years ago when the 4.0-liter I-6 retired alongside the JK-series Jeep Wrangler. The engine format is back in vogue, and its reincarnations have received good reviews. But inline-sixes are generally longer, hence FCA’s focus on a compact unit, and that could limit the purported engine’s placement options.
